• This adventure includes the rare opportunity to meet the region's largest land population of fauna: the Adelie Penguin.
• Adelie Penguins typically live 15-20 years in the wild and form massive colonies that can number in the thousands, playing a crucial role in the Antarctic ecosystem.
• As part of Viking’s commitment to research, penguin counters are onboard, conducting essential population counts.
• Observing the family dynamics within penguin colonies highlights their social structure, emphasising the importance of community in the harsh Antarctic environment.
• The counting process of the penguins is vital for understanding the ecosystem, including the role of krill and the impact of environmental changes on penguin populations.
