Tteokbokki Alley
Tteokbokki Alley
The selection of foods at the markets is daunting, and one could eat lunch there every day of the week and not have the same thing twice. However your Korean culinary experience doesn’t end there!
Literally around the corner is the home of another extremely popular Korean dish tteokbokki and to get that truly authentic taste you need to head to Sindang-dong’s Tteokbokki Alley.
The history of this dish dates back to the 19th century to Korea’s Joseon Dynasty and while the original recipe has changed a little over time, its popularity certainly hasn’t.
There are a few basic ingredients that are found in any tteokbokki recipe.
The key ingredient is tteok, or rice cakes. Add a healthy dose of gochujang, a red chilli peppers. Vegetables such as cabbage, carrots, onions and green onions are almost always added. But from this point on, anything goes.
It’s super cheap - $5 a head, and super filling…it’s Korean comfort food!
Getting on the street and eating with the locals, well that’s just part of Korean culture you just have to try.
