Jianguo Holiday Markets

The Jianaguo markets are huge, with one section selling jade and a few other precious stones, while the other section sells flowers and gardening supplies. It has been in operation for more than 20 years and opens from 9.00am to 6.00pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Jade market is one of the largest in Asia with 600 plus vendors selling some amazing jade carvings, necklaces and bracelets. Prices range from a few dollars to several hundred, depending on the quality of the jade.

Across the street from the Jade market is the best flower market ever. Stall after stall of trees, orchids, cut flowers, pots and vases and everything else related to flowers.
Garden fountains, seedlings, gardening tools and flowers such as kumquat trees, bamboo, water lilies, plum blossoms, roses and bonsai can all be found here.

Taiwan is famous for their orchids as a lot of orchid breeding is done here, so there is a much wider variety of colours and shapes that you would typically find in other places around the world. Orchids being sold at the markets are cheaper than you would ever imagine. You can buy an orchid plant for as little as $1.50 and the plants that sell for $30-50 back home cost only about $5 here.
