1700km north of Norwary’s capital, the picturesque town of Tromsø is a beautiful place to visit.
- Viking offer a 3.5-hour tour known as the Inspiring Adventures and Stirring Vistas, giving visitors the chance to experience life in one of the world’s northernmost towns.
- Tromsø is Norway’s third largest municipality, and the people of the town are famous for their active outdoor lifestyle.
- Villmarkssenter, the Wilderness Centre, is based just outside Tromsø. During the winter, they offer dog sled tours, but you can visit the huskies all year round.
- The centre is home to 300 Alaskan Huskies and their puppies. You can cuddle the dogs to your heart’s content in the dog yard.
- The huskies here have competed in numerous races, including the Iditarod in Alaska, which is 1000 miles long, and the Finnmarkslopet, which is 745 miles long. The dogs need regular exercise, even during the off season.
- Running 421 metres up the side of the mountain, the cable car reaches the top in just 4 minutes. The two gondolas carry 28 people, and the views from the top are spectacular.
- It is a normal part of life in Tromsø to be caught up in a reindeer traffic jam.
- The tour of the town takes you past many of the town’s attractions, including the Arctic Cathedral, the city centre and wharf, as well as the polar museum – Tromsø was the base for many polar expeditions. The museum is located in the former customs house on the quayside, dating back to 1830.
