Viking offers some incredible excursions, and Bergen is home to some fascinating historical ones.
- Built in 1150, the Fantoft Stave Church is visually striking, made entirely of wood. It was recognised for its heritage value and moved to its current location so visitors would be able to enjoy it.
- Troldhaugen was the home of classical composer Edvard Grieg. He composed most of his works in a small cabin in his garden, and his house is now a popular destination for music lovers – and is a Viking excursion option you should take.
- Visitors are able to explore the original building, a typical 19th Century Norwegian residence. The house has a tower to provide countryside views, a large classical veranda and some beautiful gardens; it’s easy to see how he was inspired to create his beautiful music.
- Guests to the house are treated to an exclusive concert of Grieg’s music in a small theatre that overlooks the very garden house many of his classic pieces were composed in.
- There is a gift shop, where visitors who have fallen in love with Grieg’s music are able to pick up a souvenir.
- As guests return to the cruise ship, they will hear the sound of Grieg’s music filling the halls – a truly special moment.
